Have you ever found yourself in the kitchen after a long day rummaging through the cupboards looking for those cheese crackers, only to find yourself on the couch an hour later staring at the bottom of the box and thinking, "Tomorrow I've got to start being healthier!"
Let me tell you, I have been there.
As a kid reared by a hard-working single mom, meal times used to center around convenience (hot dogs + mac and cheese, anyone?), which meant snacks came in brightly colored packaging with the promise of sensational flavors, but no real nutritional value.
As a recreational athlete all through school, I was able to mask my unhealthy food habits pretty easily (but believe me, I could feel it). It wasn't until college when a running injury put me out of commission that I began to really appreciate the power of food and fitness to shape my experience. I slowly realized that if I wanted to be able to climb a mountain in 50 years, I shouldn't just be training for a marathon. I should be training for life!
HOW DO YOU TRAIN FOR LIFE?
Now, more than ever, we have access to health information. There are diet books, news articles and blogs everywhere you look. But despite its availability, this abundance of information hasn't created more clarity about how to live a healthy life. Instead, most people find themselves confused at meal times and puzzled at the gym, wondering what food to eat and what exercise is best. With so many options, it can be hard to know what will work for you.
My philosophy on food & fitness centers around two things: keep it simple and make it sustainable.
